Interview with Anne-Marie Conway

December 11, 2012

Interview with Author of Butterfly Summer,

ANNE-MARIE CONWAY!
1.What inspired the Butterfly Summer storyline?
A friend told me about a visit to Butterfly World in St. Albans with her daughter and her daughters friend and something about the way she described it caught my imagination.

2.How long did it take you to write Butterfly Summer?
It took about a year to write the first draft and then about 6 more months editing.

3.Butterflies play a central part in Butterfly Summer. Why is that and what research did you have to do for it?
Butterflies play a central part simply because of the setting but once I’d decided to write a story set in a butterfly garden I did LOADS of research.

4.What do you see in the future for Mack and Becky?
Oh I think they’ll be together for a long time. What do you think?

5.Why and what made you want to be an author?
I’ve always loved writing, poems, letters, diaries and somehow that just grew in to writing a whole book!

6.Where is your favourite place to write?
I write in my study at the top of the house with my two cats, Betty and Boo.

7.Favourite Book? The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson

8.Any writing tips for aspiring authors? Read as much as you can and jot down ideas whenever they come to you. They might grow in to something later on.

9. What is your favourite thing about reading and writing? It’s creating and escaping to different worlds. Pure escapism. When I write I get so caught up in what I’m doing I don’t notice if five minutes, or five hours has passed. The same is true when I’m reading something really good.

Quick Fire Questions/Would you Rather?

Writing or Acting: Writing, I love acting but haven’t done it since I was a child.

Book or Newspaper: Book
Book before movie or Movie before book?: Book first, always

Sweet or Savoury?: Sweet!

Poetry or Fantasy? Neither???? I’m not mad on reading poetry, although I like writing it, and I don’t like fantasy at all!

THANK YOU ANNE-MARIE FOR YOUR TIME, I AM A HUGE FAN OF YOUR WORK AND IT WAS AN HONOUR INTERVIEWING YOU :)
