Jacqueline Harvey Interview

April 20, 2012

As many of you know Jacqueline Harvey is the best-selling Author of the brilliant Alice-Miranda Series. I also had the pleasure of meeting her at an in-store event. Currently Jacqueline is in the US doing a book tour. Recently I sent her an email asking her if I could Interview her and Post them on my Blog! I was thrilled to see a reply in my inbox with all the questions answered.  So here you have it! My Interview with Jacqueline Harvey!

Questions and Answers:

1. Why did you want to be an Author?  I always loved reading as a child and I loved telling stories too.  I wanted to be a teacher for a really long time too and I always thought that being a teacher and a writer would be the best job in the world.  I’m fortunate that’s what I do.
2. How long have you been writing?  I’ve been published since 2003 but I was always writing stories and poems and plays for the children in my classes before I started writing seriously for publication.
3. How many Alice-Miranda's are you planning on releasing?  There will be at least 10 Alice-Miranda books although I’m hoping for 13 all up!
4. If you weren't an author, what would you be?  A teacher, perhaps someone who does voice overs for the radio – that has always appealed to me too.
5. Favourite Alice-Miranda Book?  That would be like asking a parent of five children which child is their favourite.  I love them all – and they are all special to me.
6. What are your Favourite Qualities that Alice-Miranda Has?  I love her spirit – her kindness and her ability to see the good in everyone no matter how awful their behaviour might be.
7. How long does it usually take to write one novel?  About 6 months from start to finish but that’s not writing every day.  If I were to think about the actual amount of days I suspect it would be more like two months as I am on quite short deadlines.
8. Where do you see Alice-Miranda in the Future?  She will be back at school for her next adventure and then I am not quite sure.  Perhaps a sojourn to the palace to spend a little time with Aunty Gee, definitely at some stage to Paris and then perhaps a skiing holiday.  I’m not sure after that.
9. Do you have any Techniques or Tips when writing?  Start with the end in mind.  Have a bit of a plan – even if you don’t stick to it exactly.  Care about your characters – if you don’t, no one else will and above have fun with your stories.
10. Message to fans?  I am thrilled that Alice-Miranda has made friends with so many children and I am really grateful for their support.  I love hearing from my readers and meeting them too – I hope to meet more of you in the future.
