Jacqueline Harvey Event and BK5 Review

March 7, 2012

On March 4th I was very fortunate to attend a Jacqueline Harvey event at Sheares on Norton. I got to meet Jacqueline (author of the fantastic Alice-Miranda Series), ask her questions, listen to her give a very interesting talk, get Alice-Miranda books signed as well as buy the latest in the series, Alice-Miranda in New York. Plus I was lucky enough to get a photo to.

Jacqueline Harvey is a very talented Australian Author and very kind too. She writes the Alice-Miranda Series about a young girl called Alice-Miranda Highton-Smith-Kennington-Jones. She has chocolate curls and brown eyes as big as saucers, but most importantly a heart of gold. Alice-Miranda is very smart for her age as she is only seven and one-quarter years and decided she wanted to go to Boarding School, Winchesterfield-Downsfordvale Academy for Proper Young Ladies. She has such optimism and enthusiasm and is a tiny heroine.

The event was so much fun, I found out so much about Jacqueline and Alice Miranda. She even gave me a few tips. I had only read the first one but I really loved it and it then made me want to read the rest and I knew from that moment I was an Alice-Miranda Fan. On the day I purchased Alice-Miranda takes New York, which I got signed. It was only released in February so it was.. I guess you could say launched at the event.

"Alice-Miranda is in bustling New York City. It's a blur of skyscrapers, hot dog carts, chats with zoo animals and classes at Mrs Kimmel's School for Girls, right next to glorious Central Park. Her family's glamorous department store, Highton's on Fifth, has just been renovated but plans for the fabulous re-opening party are going curiously wrong. Is that why Alice-Miranda's father Hugh seems so worried? And why is her new friend Lucinda so shy about inviting Alice-Miranda home?"

I finished reading it the other day and I was so sad to see it end. It was such a great novel. Alice-Miranda and her family travel to New York for a month to work on the re-opening for the family store Highton's. Alice-Miranda is very excited to be starting at Mrs Kimmel's school for girls as well as exploring the wonders of the Big Apple. But along the way there are a few... [what Alice-Miranda's mother would say] "Hiccups". It was such a fabulous book and it was so hard to put down. I defiantly rate it 5/5 and recommend it and the whole entire series. Probably for ages 8-12. I love how it works out in the end and how it kind of connects. Nothing can put Alice-Miranda down. There are currently Five in the series and the sixth one to be released in stores later this year called, Alice-Miranda shows the way.

The other books that are currently in the series are:
1. Alice-Miranda at School
2. Alice-Miranda on Holiday
3. Alice-Miranda Takes the lead
4. Alice-Miranda at Sea
5. Alice-Miranda in New York

It's very fun to read about Alice-Miranda and her adventures she deals with everything with such bravery and kindness. Jacqueline Harvey is also has a new series in the works called Clementine Rose also released later this year. The event was awesome and series was fabulous! The event was 5/5 and so is the series! So all together it was was Fantabulous 10/10!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Hi Sunny,

I've only just seen your blogpost and I am so flattered that you not only said all those lovely things but you took the time to write it all up. I have been away on tour since 1 April and am in London at the moment. I thought I'd do some internet catch ups and saw your blog post. You might like to see what I've been up to as well - I've blogged all about the schools and places we've visited. I'm currently writing Alice-Miranda In Paris and we are going to Paris on Sunday morning. I'll finally be home at the end of June. Hope you are well and reading lots of good books.

    Best wishes,
    Jacqueline Harvey
