REVIEW: United We Spy by Ally Carter

September 16, 2013

Cammie Morgan has lost her father and her memory, but in the heart-pounding conclusion to the best-selling Gallagher Girls series, she finds her greatest mission yet. Cammie and her friends finally know why the terrorist organization called the Circle of Cavan has been hunting her. Now the spy girls and Zach must track down the Circle’s elite members to stop them before they implement a master plan that will change Cammie—and her country—forever.

United We Spy is the sixth and last book in The Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter. The Gallagher Girls series has a special place in my heart and was not one I wanted to say goodbye to, but fortunately United We Spy was a awesome conclusion. If you haven’t read this series yet my review of the first novel can be found here.

The Gallagher Girls is a really fun series full of fun and action and is the canvas to a cast of lovable, loyal, kickass characters who after 6 books feel very close. I like other readers of the series, watched Cammie break the rules to truly find herself, we watched Macey go from tough rich girl to tough super spy, Liz go from clumsy to super brainiac and Bex… well she’s always been nothing but plain awesome. As you might sense I love the characters in this novel… that most definitely including the swoon worthy spy love interest, Zach. So I was really pleased that in their senior year, there was a lot of character growth and development. Each of the characters finding themselves even though the journey isn’t at all easy.

All of the spy books I have read have depend on the use of unbelievably cool gadgets or some weird unexplainable use of magic. But The Gallagher Girls school runs solely on the training and intelligence of their students and teachers. Which I think is pretty cool and would be quite hard to pull off.

United We Spy is a fairly sturdy - maybe even fast - paced novel. It’s filled with action and plot twists and really there never is a dull moment. There’s always something to keep the reader on their toes and entertained. Somethings happened that I didn’t see coming and each twist was cleverly thought out. Another cool thing is that sometimes we only found out certain things when Cammie or any of the other characters did. But other times the author kept things under wrapped and Cammie would be one step ahead of us. Once again let me say, that I was always kept on my toes.

I also again in this novel appreciated the refreshing and humorous writing style of Ally Carter and her books are always so much fun to read. But whilst they are fun they can be dark and do carry important life values. I especially love that the school is all about Girl Power and sisters backing each other up. The loyalty of the four girls shines throughout the book and was something I loved about the strong bond the girls shared. Believe me when I say I didn’t want to say goodbye and I am not easily going to forget all the awesome adventures that Ally Carter has given us, but she did a great job at wrapping things up nicely and neatly and I was very pleased with the ending. Can't wait to begin Heist Society.
