REVIEW: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

April 12, 2013

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder — much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Clary knows she should call the police, but it's hard to explain a murder when the body disappears into thin air and the murderers are invisible to everyone but Clary.

Equally startled by her ability to see them, the murderers explain themselves as Shadowhunters: a secret tribe of warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. Within twenty-four hours, Clary's mother disappears and Clary herself is almost killed by a grotesque demon.

But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know....

City of Bones is a name all of you have probably been hearing about lately and as I was introduced to the shadow hunters world, I finally understood what all of this rage was about. This was the first book on my very large TBR List and when finally giving it a proper go, I found myself eagerly turning the pages. I was so fascinated by this new world, it has vampires, werewolves, demon's but even better... good-looking half angel warriors with a sense of humour.
Could Cassandra Clare get any better?

Look Edward Cullen was my first love, I love Vampires (deep down, who doesn't). But it was so refreshing to be introduced to a new breed of ... paranormal or mythical species who gained all the ticks. Cassandra wrote these characters to be loveable yet flawed. Clary was fierce and strong and a great female lead and Jace had a tough and cocky exterior which underneath, was someone a lot deeper. Jace was just a character that couldn't be disliked no matter how much he tried and I LOVED JACE. Simon was the ideal male best friend and him and Clary made me so happy because their friendship was just so easy flowing. His humour was hilarious and can I just say, I WANT A SIMON.

Despite everything thing happening in this book it was still very funny. I mean I think all the characters, even when morbid had a sense of humour. This book was well written and I have literally so much respect for Cassandra Clare because she practically forced me into this massive Mortal Instruments Fandom. I mean with a ending like that how could I not love this book but hate it for laying that big bombshell on me right at the end of the book. Come on.....

I loved this book and I can't wait to get stuck into book 2 and I will be picking up my loaned copy of Clockwork Angel very soon. This has joined my list of favourites, I would definitely recommend City of Bones if you like a funny, interesting and obsessive series fit for any boy or girl.

^City of Bones Movie and Casting^

Now exciting news is The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is going to be a movie. I know this is old news but who would I be if I didn't share with you my excitement for this movie in my post. I saw posters for the movie before I read this book so I think the actors kind of instantly portrayed the characters for me in my head, but saying that I think some of the casting is fabulous. Lily Colins is gorgeous and I can see her being Clary right away, but Jace.

Simon, Jace, Clary, Alec, and Isabelle

Has anybody realised how much Jamie Campbell Bower instantly makes you think of Jace? Perfect. Robert Sheehan as Simon was just a cast made in heaven. I have watched him in Misfits and one other movie and in both of them he has played characters with personalities like Simon with a bit of Jace. And knowing how capable he is of playing Simon like characters, I know he will be perfect. As for Valentine, why is he hot. This is not allowed, we are not meant to be drooling at the bad guy?

Here is the awesome trailer that has me jumping up and down for the movie release. I also found a song  called "Warrior" written by a girl called Beth Crowley that is based on The City of Bones. Its really beautiful and she's trying to get it on the soundtrack. I say yes. That's all from me tonight, I'm off to High Tea. Haha :D

  3. I got a bit worried when you said 'but Jace' because I LOVE Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace. I'm so glad you like the cast and am even happier that you liked the book. This is one of my favourites and so it's always nice to see other people reading it. :)

  4. So happy to hear that you loved this, Sunny! I'm hoping to get to this book before the movie is released, so my opinions aren't tainted (heh), so it's extremely encouraging to see this five-star review. :) The characters definitely sound amazing. I hate it when they're perfect - totally ruins the image of being realistic, and it becomes harder for us to care about them, too. And JAAAAACE. So many people have been gushing about him. I have to admit, I'm pretty curious. ;)

Great review! Can't wait to get my hands on this.
