REVIEW: Slated by Terri Terry

March 10, 2013

Kyla's memory has been erased, her personality wiped blank, her memories lost forever.

She's been Slated.
The government claims she was a terrorist, and that they are giving her a second chance - as long as she plays by their rules. But echoes of the past whisper in Kyla's mind. Someone is lying to her, and nothing is as it seems. Who can she trust in her search for the truth?

Slated lived up to my expectations and had me hooked from the beginning as we tried to find out Kyla’s past. And it was one thrilling, freaky, and intense journey. Kyla is an interesting character with a damaged past that she doesn't remember at all and it was bad enough that she had to be brain wiped for it. But she's not like other Slated's doing what they are told, she is hungry for answers and nobody is answering them.

The concept of a forgotten past is used quite a bit but this one was unique enough to be classified as it's own and we weren't overflowed with information but it was given enough to make us curious and intrigued.

Along the way we were introduced to lots of likeable characters like BEN, Jazz, and even the Mom who turned out to be kinder then first pictured. Ben was incredibly sweet, and AHH-Worthy. He kept Kyla's secrets and understood when she needed space and was understanding when she was upset. Their relationship was cute and came at the right temperature. So that it didn't take away from the plot but added that little sparkle.

I liked that Kyla was strong and fierce but still compassionated and willing to take risks. The ending was un-suspected and ended in a big fat CLIFFHANGER, Agh. Annoying right. It was a really good book and I'd definitely recommend it to a friend. Can't wait for Fractured. And btw has anyone realised what an unusual yet awesome name Terri has.
