REVIEW: Alice-Miranda Shows The Way + Alice-Miranda In Paris Launch

March 12, 2013

Alice-Miranda Shows The Way
Alice-Miranda has a birthday to celebrate and a village show to look forward to! One of the highlights of the Winchesterfield show is the Queen's Cup horserace. But Aunty Gee's prize racehorse, Rockstar, is refusing to leave the stables. That is, until Alice-Miranda introduces him to her own naughty pony, Bonaparte.

Preparations for the show are coming along well until a series of thefts rocks the community. Things quickly go from bad to worse when Alice-Miranda's beloved Bony is horse-napped. Can Alice-Miranda uncover the culprit and get her horse back in time for Rockstar to compete in the race?

Alice-Miranda is a fabulous series that is hard not to enjoy, with Alice-Miranda's optimism and the mystery and intrigue in every novel and the cute illustrations on the cover. In this adventure, Alice-Miranda is back at school with her friends and it's time for the Queen's Cup. With the carnival in town and Aunty Gee's racehorse ready to add the final medal to the collection everything should be in place. That is until Rockstar's trainer injures herself and the stubborn horse won't leave his stables. With raised suspicions of a thief in town things start to go missing and the carnival people are getting blamed.

One great addition to reading a book with a mystery is if it is written in third person. I really enjoyed it being written this way because it enabled us to get an insight into what multiple characters where doing and their thoughts and emotions, in a way that wasn't complicated. As always the talented Jacqueline Harvey has provided a story starring such great characters that are really fun to read about. Alice-Miranda is a refreshing character because all though she comes from a rich family she has no arrogant or spoilt characteristics and she always See's the best in everyone. She has a genuinely kind and bright personality. And along with that we have some horrible characters in a sense that they are so mean and spiteful yet are written in such a fun and witty way.

Winchesterfield-Downsfordvale Academy for Proper Young Ladies sounds like a really magnificent school and each page leaves me wanting an enrolment form. Again I have to say that the mystery is really great and there is one in each and every adventure and they are never boring. The pieces when glued together make you sit back and say "OH". It's not complicated or predictable but makes perfect sense and it's interesting to see everything and everyone come together in some form or another.

It's a great series that has you thinking, smiling and laughing all in one. I would recommend it for ages 10-13 and you should defiantly look out for it next time you go to the bookstore. With the latest novel in the series, "Alice-Miranda in Paris" out now, what better time to start the series. This Saturday there will be an Alice-Miranda in Paris Launch including a fashion show and a delicious array of Paris themed food. I booked my ticket, why don't you come along too (See Below for Details). Thanks Dot for providing me a ticket, I can't wait to go.

  2. This sounds like an adorable series! I also like the fact that it's third person, I think it would be better that way. The name is kind of a mouthful, but Alice-Miranda does sound very enjoyable.

I've been trying to branch out to different types of genres so thank you for showing me this!

    Love the review :)
