Ascend by Amanda Hocking Review

January 27, 2013

Wendy Everly can barely remember what it was like to feel like a normal girl. She’d wished for her life to be different but everything is so much more complicated than she’d expected. And she certainly hadn’t dreamt she’d be getting married at eighteen to a man she didn’t love – all for the sake of duty.

As the big day approaches, Wendy can’t stop thinking about two different men – and neither of them are her husband-to-be. Finn – quiet, strong and determined to do what’s right, and Loki – dark and seductive, a sworn enemy who once saved her life. With all-out war just days away, Wendy needs to act quickly if she is to save her friends and family. But while her loyalties and duties are to her people, deeper passions are leading her elsewhere.

And as her worlds collide, Wendy must sacrifice everything she loves to save them. But will it be enough?

The Tyrlle series has been one that felt so real and I too felt like I went on the journey with Wendy in all 3 adventures. Unfortunately Ascend was the last in the trilogy and I enjoyed it so much that it gave me the happiness to complete my to-do list through-out all the day!!

I have seen so many reviews from people who were let down by this book and it just goes to show how every ones opinion differs because I thought it was the best one. From Switched through to Torn and now Ascend you feel you can connect to the characters, as if you have been with them all the way. So it made it cool to see how much Wendy grows into this leader who is faced with so much but deals with it in such a humane form.

It was a book were we asked ourselves what was going to happen next whilst being trapped in the story almost immediately. The characters continuously placed with problems that made the story much more interesting. There were to many things that I enjoyed to list because not only would it take some time but because I don't want to spoil anything.

Some would say that the final in almost every trilogy is the most anticipated because so many questions are answered and in this case it was who Wendy would end up with, Finn or Loki? Although who she ended up with was not whom or how I imagined, the bonus story made it impossibly hard not to love the ending and really appreciate it for what it was. It made me smile and feel all warm and fuzzy inside and reconsider which team I was on, although loving both 2 men. And as I said earlier, it gave me the empowerment to do all the things I'd been putting off. Making it a very eventful day.

If you haven't picked up this series then I would really advise you to look out for it at your local library or bookshop because it is a great YA fantasy series and I could NOT put it down. :)

My Ascend Rating: 5/5 Stars
