GIVEAWAY: A Sunny Spot turns 6!

January 3, 2018

Happy New Year everyone! So long 2017 and holla 2018. Welcome to the year of glowing and growing, getting fiercer and funkier!

Today is a particularly special day for me not only because the magic of the early new year remains strong, but because today is a little day us bloggers call a blogaversary! It was six years ago that an eleven year old Sunny made the decision to start sharing her opinions with the world through a hugely underdeveloped and cringy blog known as A Sunny Spot.

While I'm not exactly where I hoped I'd be at six years, I also couldn't have possibly imagined how worthwhile and rewarding the decision to start blogging would be. I had zero plans or predictions about my blog when I first started, I don't think I even thought about its future and longevity at all. Yet, somehow through many trials, tribulations, and dry spells, six years later I am still committed to continuing the lifespan of this blog.

Blogging has provided me with a platform to share and make sense of my feelings and interests. Its slow evolution over the years has reflected my own growth and development and will continue to do so in the future as I expand the range of content posted. I never expected that in making the decision to start blogging, with it would come a new found confidence and sense of empowerment stemming from being able to express your opinions in your own way despite feeling young, helpless and unimportant. A platform whether big or small is still one worth utilising in the most positive way possible.

Since beginning this blog, I have met the loveliest people ever (bloggers, readers, authors, and publishers), formed wonderful and long-lasting friendships, have read so many wonderful books, and have engaged much more thoughtfully and critically with pop culture, politics, and the media.

Thank you to anyone who still reads and supports this blog and has done so over the years! You are SO very appreciated. So as a thank you, I'm holding a small international giveaway! All participants must be able to receive free shipping from the Book Depository. Essentially I have rounded up 10 different books split evenly into two packs, my favourite reads of 2017 and my most anticipated reads of 2018. The winner (who I'll contact via email) will be able to pick a book of their choice from either the 2017 or 2018 pack (will be preordered) and have it delivered to them by the Book Depository. The competition is a month long and I can't wait to send a bookish delight out to someone. Here's to a successful 2018 and to free books! Love you guys <3 ENTER BELOW

  4. My goal is to read 100 books this year, and I always say my resolution is to read more classics!

The Hate U Give was one of my favourites from last year, and When Dimple Met Rishi and Always and Forever, Lara Jean were on my list, too. My most anticipated release for next year is American Panda, but from your list I'd likely choose From Twinkle, With Love!

  5. Congrats on 6 years Sunny! The great thing about blogging over time is definitely to see how we change and grow in what we're reading and writing about. I've heard amazing things about 'The Princess Saves Herself in this One' so I'll definitely have to pick it up soon. I hope 2018 is a wonderful one for you and your blog :)

  6. I won't enter but congratulations on six years of blogging Sunny! I'm so thrilled that you're back! Having a platform is an amazing opportunity to talk about so many important issues not only in the book community but in social circles, to talk about activism and ignite the sharing of ideas and opinions, it'll be your generation that will no doubt bring about the change the world so desperately needs <3

  8. You were 11 when you started blogging? That's so freaking cute, Sunny!! ♥ Congratulations on this huge milestone, and here's to many more years of blogging! Now you have a new subscriber that will go with you in that journey! - seriously, I'm in love with your posts and the design of your blog, so you'll see me here all the time! My best wishes for your blog and for you, and have an awesome 2018! =D

PS: I almost forgot about the giveaway - great book choices, btw! My main goal for this year is actually a personal one, and it has to do with my health. I haven't taken care of myself in ages, and I think it's time to change that. As for my most anticipated releases, I'd say Legendary, by Stephanie Garber, and A Court of Frost and Starlight, by Sarah J. Maas.

  9. Happy Belated Blog Birthday! I can't remember when it was I started reading A Sunny Spot but I know it was early on in my blogging time ( 5 years ago? ). I get nostalgic seeing where all these blogs and the people behind them have journeyed to and remember how much I look forwarded t reading these posts. A lot of bloggers I followed back then have stopped or gone in different directions. It's great to see how far you have come and I wish you every success in your blogging endeavours to come <3

As for my own goals for 2018, I think the most important one is to work on myself by learning to accept and love myself whilst also striving to be who I want to be. I don't want to change anymore but I want to grow a bit. I feel tied back sometimes by own thoughts, anxiety and society so I want to try and blossom really this year.
My most anticipated book this year has got to be Almost Love by Louise O'Neill. I'm very excited for that!
