Cherry Crush by Cathy Cassidy Review

February 24, 2013

Cherry Crush was not the novel I expected it to be. It reminded me how refreshing Cathy Cassidy's novels are. And it was just what I needed. It's been a good while since I've read one of her books and when I first started reading a lot she was one of my favorite authors. So it was nice to see that her talent for books is obviously still there and of course you can never doubt that she will supply her readers with a fabulous story.

After just finishing Gallagher Girls 2, I was faced with a readers most difficult question. What book do I read next from my ever so long pile of books? So I went with a wild card, a novel that was not on the pile, the first in Cathy's popular Chocolate Box Girls Series.

The Chocolate Box Girls: Cherry Crush

CHERRY. Dark almond eyes, skin the colour of milky coffee, wild imagination, feisty, fun . . .

Cherry Costello's life is about to change forever. She and Dad are moving to Somerset where a new mum and a bunch of brand-new sisters await.
And on Cherry's first day there her head is turned by the gorgeous Shay Fletcher.
But Shay already has a girlfriend, Cherry's new stepsister, Honey. Cherry knows her friendship with Shay is dangerous - it could destroy everything. But that doesn't mean she's going to stay away from him . . .

For starters let's just take a moment to honour the delicious cover. I mean if the beautiful font doesn't entice you, then the chocolates will surely do the trick. Cherry Crush was about Cherry Costello, she was a character who never fit in anywhere and was constantly landing in trouble because of her vivid imagination.

Cherry lives with her single father and jumps at the chance of escaping mean girl Kristy McRae for a chocolate filled life by the beach with her new step family. The Tanberry family where mostly a welcoming bunch and where like able characters with interesting personalities.

Shay was definitely dreamy and was a chilled back guy with the blue-guitar. At first he came across as a player with slightly arrogant characteristics. But that impression fell quickly and we were introduced to a Shay that I grow to love.

Cathy's writing described what seemed like the perfect place, Cherry Trees and Caravans, Beaches and Fairy - Lit Gardens. I mean I was filled with utter-jealously. I liked that for once it wasn't your typical scenario of Evil Step mom or Daughter un-able to move on. Wow that sounded insensitive. I mean there was Honey who had some serious issues, but even she had understandable flaws. And Charlotte who was Cherry's Step Mother was kind and so were her children. And Cherry was looking forward to a fresh start. So it wasn't your average step family story-line.

Overall if you are looking for book that has romance, depth and chocolate in one then you should pick up this book. It was a short read that gave me something to do through out the day and I can't wait to read the other sisters novels in The Chocolate Box Girls Series. I'd maybe recommend this for ages 9-12.

My Cherry Crush Rating: 4 and a half stars
